DESCRIPTION: Probably Switzerland, hour striking clock watch, the mechanism counting the hours in passing and repeating the last hour at will, key wind and set, gilt plate movement with verge escapement, Tompion regulator and pierced, engraved balance bridge in a silver, hinged back and bezel, reeded edge, engine turned, open face case with Roman numeral, skeletonized, white enamel dial, gilt beetle and poker hands, 55mm, c1820, together with a later key and silver chain.
CONDITION: CASE: Minor dents; Dings and pin pricks; Scratches on outer surface of case; Scratches on cuvette; Engine turning worn smooth; Incorrect crystal; Bezel and back with wear at closure, no longer snap tight when closing. DIAL: Replaced dial, glued to movement. HANDS: Replaced. MOVEMENT PLATES: Scratches on plate; Gilding with losses; Time mainspring set up ratchet with broken tooth; Bright work with minor oxidation; Screw heads marred and with loss to blue; One case screw with broken head; Specks of dirt / dust. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks). COMPLICATION FUNCTION: Hourly strike and repeat functions work, but upon activation strike train begins running immediately and will not allow rack to fall completely in order to sound correct hour.
